Why you should buy log furniture from Lincoln Logs Furniture

The most important items when considering what log furniture to purchase are of course appearance, quality and durability.  We approach each piece of furniture we build as a piece of art.  We use the highest quality materials and have mechanisms in place to ensure each piece of furniture that leaves the shop meets rigorous quality standards.

Beds

Our beds are designed such that they can be passed down through the generations - remaining solid and problem free.

- Our beds have at least 5” diameter bed posts and two 3.5” full log side rails on each side for maximum strength and a robust appearance.  On our deluxe beds the bed posts are at least 6-7" in diameter with 4.5" full log side rails! We use two coats of lacquer for a beautiful, durable finish.

- We use two full log side rails without any holes or cuts in them and a mattress support system is custom made for log beds - you won't find a more solid, stronger, longer lasting design.

show_skirt4.png- Our beds have an angle iron mattress support system that is carefully designed to maximize the strength of the bed while not angleiron-txt-b-w.pngcompromising the rustic wood appearance of the bed   Please note these are not metal side rails, which are to be avoided.

-The angle iron is well hidden so only the two full log side rails on each side are apparent and our design allows the use of bed skirts.

- The angle iron is secured to posts with a metal-to-metal pivot point, as such the torque generated when someone lays on the bed is not transferred to the connection with the wood and won't loosen over time.

-  For the cross members we use one angle iron with a support footing and two 2x4s except for king beds which use two angle irons and three 2x4s.

This metal-to-metal connection will maintain the strength and integrity of the bed frame no matter how many metal_to_metal.pngtimes the bed is disassembled and reassembled.

-Wood frames without metal reinforcement will weaken each time they're disassembled and reassembled. This is because the pine and aspen used to make log furniture is softer wood than what is normally used on contemporary beds.

tenon_cut2_small.jpg

All our log-to-log connections are tenon and mortise joined - this means the log is tapered down to insert into the other log.

-This adds to strength and appearance

-But we’re careful to not over taper the tenon cuts which can make a log look skinny at the ends and weakens the log.

We carefully choose each of the logs for its character and to compliment the character of the other logs.

-Large or assembly line manufacturers do not take the time to pay attention to this kind of detail

Bed designs to avoid bad_design_small2.jpg

 - Beds with single log side rails will probably not last.  There is too much torque put on that single joint.  It doesn't matter how big the side rail is because it will be tenonized down to, at most, 2" in diameter.  As you can see above we tenonize our logs but over time if there is continuous torque on this joint (which will happen with single side rails every time you get in or out or move in the bed) it will loosen up and won't be easily reparable because the tenon joint won't be snug.  With double full log side rails and the angle iron support system we use this torque is eliminated.

-  Beds that use the side rails for their mattress support system are also inherently weak because the side rails have sizable holes cut into them to insert the cross members into.  On a regular basis we have people come in with broken side rails that are designed this way asking us to make a new side rail for them because theirs has broken where one of the holes are.

Dressers, armoires, desks, etc.

- Made with top quality materials and a careful selection of wood.

- 100 lb European metal rollers are used on all drawers to ensure a lifetime of effortless operation.

- Baltic birch is used for our drawer construction – no particle board

- When you select Aspen furniture we actually only use Aspen for the trim.  Aspen logs have a different look drawer2.pngthan pine but once Aspen is milled it looks very similar to pine.  At the same time Aspen is significantly softer than pine so it only makes sense to use pine on the surfaces that need to be durable (tops, drawer fronts, sides) while still getting the look of Aspen by using unmilled logs for the trim.

 Top trim options

- On the left is our standard milled pine top trim option regardless of whether the furniture selected is milled pine, Aspen, hand or skip peeled pine.

- For Aspen, hand peeled and skip peeled furniture you have the option of the top trim also being of that type of wood.  This is  shown to the right and on the dresser picture directly above.  Because these woods are more time consuming to work with there is a price adder but many people think it's well worth it.

The Lincoln Logs Log Furniture Team

We are proud of our team at Lincoln Logs Log Furniture and the pride they take in the workmanship of each piece of log furniture they create. All furniture is hand built to order by our skilled craftsmen right here at the shop. This gives us the ability to custom build each order to meet your individual tastes.

Lincoln Logs Log Furniture understands the importance of having each craftsman take pride in what they build. The company is set up so one craftsman is responsible for the entire creation of a piece of  furniture. This might not be as efficient as mass producing the furniture on an assembly line but it does instill a sense of ownership and pride in every piece of log furniture that is produced. And for comparable quality, our prices are still less than the bigger guys that out-source their production.

Now about the guys that build our furniture.

Cameron is a member of the log crew and is also a log sub- supervisor. His father had a shop at his home growing up and the first piece of furniture Cameron built was a coffee table. After building furniture in their home, Cameron realized how much he enjoyed it and decided to make it a career.

At Lincoln Logs Log Furniture, Cameron loves to build custom furniture. He says, "it feels good because you have accomplished something that came from a log."

Justin is also a sub-supervisor. He started building frames when he began painting on canvas. He now does photography and has been commissioned for his work. For a time Justin was employed at a plant in Wisconsin building furniture. Building wood furniture feels more like a hobby than work

to Justin. He enjoys manufacturing each piece and getting paid for it is just an added bonus.

Andrew is an invaluable member of the log crew having ten years of experience in building furniture, .  Andrew takes great pride in his work and has always loved log furniture. His home is decorated in log furniture home decor. Andrew appreciates being with a company that provides quality

ownership and management. He feels this allows him time to focus on the quality of his work.  Andrew is married with one son who he says, "has a lot of energy."

Phil first started working with wood in high school and, before coming to Lincoln Logs Furniture, built home theater systems, shelves and cabinetry.  Phil enjoys working at Lincoln Logs Furniture because he feels that he can better express his artistic abilities when working with log furniture -  Phil is also an avid photographer and painter.  Phil is married with no children - yet.

Ben is the Sales/Marketing Manager. He came to work for Lincoln Logs Log Furniture when he was 17 years old. He has been with the company longer than anyone on staff. He built furniture for  several years before moving into the sales/marketing position. This background gives him the ability

to expertly help you visualize and design your own custom log furniture. He left for a few months to work in sales for another company but his love for Lincoln Logs Log Furniture quickly brought him back. Ben loves his job and the ability to interact with others however, he still enjoys being in the

shop involved in new projects. Ben is married with a beautiful baby girl.

Mike Bailey recently took over Lincoln Logs Log Furniture as owner. Mike is dedicated to the success of the company, management, and the wood working crew. He is committed to using state of the art techniques to ensure quality, durability and beautiful log furniture. Customer service is

important to Mike. He feels it is critical to maintain the integrity of each piece of furniture, guaranteeing high customer service. His past experience will undoubtedly take Lincoln Logs Log Furniture to new heights.

The team at Lincoln Logs Log Furniture is committed to providing you with top quality log beds, dressers, desks, floor lamps, table lamps, tables, chairs, desks, mirrors, hutches, benches, bar stools  and more at prices that can't be beat. We are willing to work harder and go the extra mile to do what

it takes to earn your business. We thank you for your interest and hope to be providing you the perfect log furniture to meet your needs.
