Log Types & Finishes | Print |  E-mail

You have five standard log styles to choose when deciding on your furniture.  These are 1) milled pine 2) aspen, 3) hand-peeled pine 4) skip peeled pine and 5) rustic milled pine.   The primary difference in these is appearance and price.   The milled pine and rustic milled pine are the simplest and least expensive to build with and as such offer the lowest priced alternative.  Aspen, hand peeled pine and skip peeled pine are all comparable in difficulty and cost to construct so prices will be comparable across the three styles.  Examples of each are shown below;

Milled Pine

Milled pine produces the cleanest look and is the look most commonly associated with log furniture.

Aspen

Aspen creates a more rustic appearance and some consider it more elegant.

Hand Peeled Pine

Hand peeled pine creates a more rustic look than milled pine with a “finished by hand”  look versus a machine finish look.

Skip Peeled Pine

Skip peeled is similar to hand peeled except strips of the bark are left on for an even more rustic look.   (A picture of a piece of furniture will be coming shortly)

Rustic Milled Pine

Rustic milled pine is milled by a machine but parts of the natural wood finish are left exposed in places.
